About the service

This service offers specialist exercise sessions, programs, group classes, and advice.

All sessions are:

  • Individualised: designed specifically for you.
  • Informed by current research: designed to be as effective and safe as possible.
  • Delivered using person centred approaches: you are the expert on yourself and your input matters.
  • Designed to be enjoyable and foster well-being: the way you feel about exercise matters.

This service is delivered out of an accessible clinic gym in West End called Inertia Fitness.

Initial assessment:

Before involvement in one-on-one or group sessions, each person will have an initial assessment (which is all friendly and non-invasive). This assessment allows the sessions or classes to be tailored to you. The assessment generally runs for around an hour and will collect information on:

  • Goals, lifestyle, supports, and preferences.
  • Detailed medical and treatment history.
  • Cardiorespiratory measures, movement analysis, pain and dysfunction analysis, baseline strength, mobility, and endurance data.

One-on-one sessions:

Designed and tailored for you following a comprehensive assessment, the one-on-one sessions allow for the highest level of support and care.

The one-on-one sessions are designed to either:

  • Be done weekly for a high level of support.
  • Be done for a short period to help form the foundations and build confidence to continue autonomously or join group classes.
  • Be done as a once off to touch on any specific concerns you may be having such as chronic pain, injury, or skill development.

Group classes:

Designed to simultaneously improve strength, endurance, balance, and function, the group classes offer a social setting while still maintaining a high level of support.

The classes are designed to be small (max 6 people) to allow exercises to still be individualised for each persons ability.

The classes run for 50min and are available on Mondays and Thursdays.

Programs:

Following a comprehensive assessment, the programs designed for you will generally include:

  • A detailed exercise program (either home based or gym based).
  • Flare up management plans.
  • Progression options for self-maintenance.

The programs are presented in an easy to understand manner with pictures/ videos and descriptions.
